Shot Glass, 14

Before I head home, from an overnight shift

I’m confronted by the morning sun

Each time this happens, prone to blindness

I assent, subject to the endless scope

of this brimming world above control

My biology, and I this hopeful swindler

foiled by the light switch to inspire them all

In a parking lot of a seaside hotel

pealing away to dive in my hole

I’m confronted with the morning sun
